Christy Dunkle
Photography, Jewelry
Multimedia artist Christy Dunkle began taking photographs of cemetery sculpture while attending the University of Colorado. Studying for a Master of Landscape Architecture degree, tree classes were held in cemeteries because the oldest trees in the city were located in these “parks”. Having obtained a Polaroid Daylab camera during her undergraduate studies in art at the University of Northern Colorado, she used slides from the cemeteries to create images using the image and emulsion transfer processes. She also creates simple and elegant necklaces, earrings, and other pieces of jewelry: an art form that she began exploring while in undergraduate school and was a part of the Madison and Main Artist Co-Op in Greeley, Colorado.
Over the years Christy has participated in regional and national juried art shows and had representation in Denver and Seattle. She has traveled extensively in the US, Canada, New Zealand and Europe and has used images from these travels for her collage work and Polaroid transfers.
She is now a resident of Bluemont and has been working for the Town of Berryville since 2000.
